# Default responses

Default responses in AIsuru offer a useful way to handle situations where the Agent doesn't understand a request.

### What are default responses

Default responses are standard replies your Agent can give users when it doesn't know how to answer a question.

### How to edit default responses

* Go to your Agent's  **Contents**;
* From the menu, select "Default responses".

From this section you can edit the base default response and add additional default responses.

**Base default response**

The base default response is what your Agent says when it runs into an error.

To change it, edit the text field and click the "Save" button on the right. If you want to restore it to its original value, click "Reset".

#### Custom default responses

In some cases, you can show a custom response that the Agent will give users instead of the base response.

To do so, click the **New default response** button and enter the response.

Remember that you must specify at least one of the following:

* Required [topic](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/context-topics-and-labels.md);
* [Role](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/assigning-contents-to-roles.md) to assign the response to;
* [Date or location](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/customizing-responses-by-date-and-location.md).

Inside the creation panel, you can also:

* Add [additional answers](/en/agent-training/contents/manual-content-creation.md#additional-answers);
* Mark the [response as conclusive](/en/agent-training/contents/manual-content-creation.md#other-fields);
* Add [media and links](/en/agent-training/contents/manual-content-creation.md#media-and-links);
* Advanced: add [suggestions](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/managing-suggestions.md), [tags](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/managing-tags.md), [context](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/context-topics-and-labels.md), [code snippets](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/managing-code-snippets.md), change the [timeout](/en/agent-training/advanced/content-customization/using-timeout.md), and modify the [DCM integration](/en/extensions/open-badge.md).

### Using default responses effectively

To get the most out of your default responses:

* Write clear, concise responses that guide the user toward a resolution;
* Consider different scenarios and create specific responses for each;
* Regularly update responses to make sure they stay relevant.

# Agent Instructions: Querying This Documentation

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.aisuru.com/en/agent-training/advanced/default-responses.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
